Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara 2013 Free Download

Plot

The movie commences from where the previous film ended with Shoaib Khan being the reigning don after successfully assassinating his mentor, thus earning the respect and reverence of the people apparently. 12 years later, he is still the charismatic and suave man with womanising skills who has extended his empire upto the Middle east on the west. His sole companions and friends are Javed (Sarfaraz Khan), who oversees his illegal and shady works for him, his old-time love Mumtaz (Sonali Bendre) and Aslam (Imran Khan), a youth spotted by Shoaib during one of his visits to the slums, where he once spent the early years of his life.
Now much older, Shoaib (Akshay Kumar) comes back to Bombay after years to finish off Rawal (Mahesh Manjrekar), another gangster. Although the city still being his first love, a rising starlet, Jasmine (Sonakshi Sinha) has caught the fancy of Shoaib's heart. Jasmine is a forthcoming movie star, whom Shoaib makes famous, and showers her with gifts. In due time, this passion takes the shape of obsession for Shoaib. On the other hand, he sends Aslam along with another trustworthy goon, Jimmy, to finish off Rawal. As they arrive, Rawal switches the lights off and Jimmy unknowingly kills Rawal's apparent girlfriend instead.
Rawal flees, and soon, Jimmy is arrested. The police keeps him in for less than 10 minutes and lets him go. The police's plan is to make it look as if Jimmy has turned on Shoaib, so that Shoaib arrives to finish off Jimmy, and then they will capture him. Aslam suspects this, and decides to go get Jimmy himself instead of Shoaib. As Aslam arrives, the police gather around and attack. Aslam gets Jimmy, however is interrupted by an police inspector. Shoaib appears and injures the inspector, before shooting Jimmy dead after accusing him of betrayal. Shoaib and Aslam escape from the scene after a long chase by the police.
By this time, not only has Shoaib fell in love with Jasmine, Aslam has also befriended her. Slowly, however, this friendship apparently turns into love. When Shoaib decides to gift Jasmine a house, she realizes that he loves her, and straightly tells him that she considers him as a friend. Disappointed Shoaib, violently reacts and makes her leave. Angered, he goes to her film shoot and destroys some of the set. Jasmine, realizing that the only way nothing will get worse decides to return to Shoaib. As Aslam tries to confess his love to her, she tells him that they cannot meet again. By then, Shoaib sends Aslam to pick Jasmine up, unknown to Aslam, who is shocked to see her as Shoaib's love.
At the same time, Rawal enters and attacks Jasmine.[6]

Filming

"Oman is a stunning country with varied landscapes. We required a good mix of retro and contemporary for the part we wanted to shoot there, and Oman gave us a lot more. It has a lot to offer visually, which worked well for us as film-makers."[11][12]
—Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures in an interview to Glamsham.
[13]
"There are so many beautiful locations across the globe but little did we know that a country of such stark yet stunning beauty is a neighboring country. We needed a location of pristine beauty in the Middle East, and Oman, a relatively virgin location, worked for us like a charm. It's a rich mix of sea, sand and mountains."[11][12]
—Milan Lutharia, Director of the film in an interview to Glamsham.

The hotel where most of the Oman leg of the film was shot
The filming began in Mumbai during August 2012. The first part of the shooting schedule started in September 2012 in Oman.[14] This was the first time a major Indian production was shot in the Sultanate of Oman. Headquartered in Muscat, Tour Oman, a division of Travel Point LLC along with Oman Air, the national airliner company and Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa played a vital role in the collaboration of Balaji Motion Pictures and Oman tourism as Hospitality Partners for the film with the latter hoping that Oman's picturesque locale's showcased in the film would help boost tourist interest in Oman thereby resulting in an increase of visitors which would in turn lead to a brighter economy. Portions of the film were canned at the Qantab Beach, Qurum Corniche, Central Business District and The Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.[11][12][13] During the filming, Director Milan Luthria had a viral fever and the shoot had to be called off for 3 Days. To make up for the lost time Milan convinced Akshay to work for two consecutive Sundays. This marks the first time in 7 years that Akshay worked on Sunday which he usually keeps for spending time with his family. He last worked on a sunday for Priyadarshan's Bhagam Bhag in the year 2006.[15]

Casting

The lead role was initially chosen to be played by Emraan Hashmi, who also appeared in the original film. However, director Milan Luthria was searching for an older actor, and hence chose Akshay Kumar. Kumar is to play the role of Shoaib Khan (Dawood Ibrahim). In February 2012, it was announced that there were two male leads in the film, and the second parallel to Kumar, was signed to Shahid Kapoor. However, in March 2012, it was finalized that Imran Khan was actually playing the second male lead.[16] Many female actors were considered for the female lead, including Illeana D'Cruz, Kareena Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, however in April 2012, it was reported that Sonakshi Sinha had been casted.[17] Sonali Bendre has also been roped in to play a leading character in the film.[18][19] The film will mark Sonali Bendre's first role since Shankar Dada MBBS. In November 2012, it was announced that the film is scheduled to release on Eid 2013.[20][21] TV actor Chetan Hansraj will also play a pivotal negative part in this film.

Mohar Basu of Koimoi praised the second trailer, its background score along with the direction and action choreography and opined that the second trailer is even better than the film’s first trailer in the respective aspects of filmmaking and leaves an explosive impact on its audiences.[26]
Ekta Kapoor, the producer of the film went a step ahead to promote the second trailer of the film by booking prime time, between 8 pm to 11 pm slots in four television channels for airing the second trailer for a large sum of money.[27] She also spent 20 million rupees to buy a slot in a leading channel to play a special episode related to the film.[28]
The three leading characters of the film namely, Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan, the producer of the film Ekta Kapoor along with most other members of the cast and crew visited the Dargah Sharif. A shrine of Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti situated in Ajmer it was visited on the morning 5 August, Monday in a bid to pray for the commercial success of the film and the well-being of the relatives of the members associated with the film respectively.[29]
"A touch of appreciation is always held dearly in an actor's arms, even if it's from the simplest of people like our beloved spot boys. But to have your work spoken of so kindly by the world's most admired gangster Al Pacino himself - I had goose-bumps thinking about him watching the promo! I was so humbled, not only as an actor but as a fan of his legendary work. I pray he enjoys the final piece as much as he enjoyed the promo!."[30]
—Akshay Kumar, Lead of the film.
"I'm walking around with a silly grin and you know why! The only actor's portrait in my cabin is of this God of Gangsters! An all-time legend and personal favorite. Thank you!"[30]
—Milan Luthria, Director of the film.
Hollywood Actor Al Pacino, showed his appreciation for the film and stated that the promos and the posters have had him reminiscing about his Godfather times. Incidentally Pacino's buisness associate, Barry Navidi showed him the theatrical trailer where Akshay Kumar's appearance, who plays the role of a fictitious don in the film brought back memories and experiences from the 1972 film. Al Pacino portrayed the role of Michael Corleone, son of Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando).[30]
Actor Rishi Kapoor who enacted in the original version of the song in the film Amar Akbar Anthony in an impromptu meeting with Imran Khan in a dubbing session for the film gave the stamp of his approval for the performance of Imran Khan as well as the song. The reason for Imran Khan concern was the approval of the watchers and the negative clout of comparisons between the older and newer versions.[31]
The name of the Film has been changed thrice. The production first started under the production and media referring it to with the name Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2. Then earlier it was officialy named Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again. Later owing to the director being a staunch believer of Astrology and Numerology the name was renamed to Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobara with the addition of "Dobara" (meaning again in Hindi) to the title. Later a 'y' and extra 'a' was added to the title thus making it Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara!, the present title.[32]

Controversies

Initially, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chennai Express and Akshay Kumar starrer Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! both have been abandoned by Pakistani distributors and exhibitors in the interest of four of their own films releasing on the same day but now it has been finalised that both the films will be released in Pakistan.[33]
The prequel to the film, which was Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, had storyline and characters that were similar to real-life underworld dons according to film critics. The same was speculated about the sequel with the visual appearance of the lead character being strikingly similar to Dawood Ibrahim along with several aspects of the film like glimpses of Shoaib's involvement in cricket matches shown in the first theatrical trailer comparable to Dawood's alleged strong hold in monopolisation of cricket matches. Shoaib Khan romancing a starlet, portrayed on-screen by Sonakshi Sinha also drew attention with Dawood's rumoured affair with 1980's mainstream-film actress Mandakini, more so with the real name of Mandakini being Yasmeen Joseph which had an uncanny resemblance to the original name of the character, Yasmin. Thus the name was later changed to Jasmine in-light of such controversies.[34]
Answering to such speculations, the producer of the film, lead and director of the venture have time and again despised such allegations and remained firm on their statement that the film is entirely fictional thereby clearing the air of rumours.[35]

The soundtrack of the film received mainly positive reviews from contemporary critics.
Rumnique Nannar of Bollyspice gave the soundtrack three and a half stars and opined, "the album succeeds in all respects, since it features a remake, a retro song, and two gems, and manages to fit with the film’s tone and mood of the 80s".[48]
Movie Talkies also gave the soundtrack three and a half stars and stated, "the soundtrack of OUATIMD is an excellent effort from Pritam and is sure to be lapped up by the audiences in much the same way as its predecessor. It sure might be a short album with just four songs in it but suffice to say, Quality wins over Quantity".[49]
Rajiv Vijayakar writing for Bollywood Hungama analised and reviewed each song on its own merit.
  • Ye Tune Kya Kiya - A Sufi song in its roots the reviewer praised Pritam, the Composer for adhering to deep melodies in parts thereby bridging the generation gap between the best of the melodious past and today's music and for handing it out more of a Sufi-Rock treatment. According to the reviewer it serves as a rightful successor to the Sufi song called Tumjo Aye Mere Zindagi Mein from the soundtrack of the prequel but this time its more intricately designed and pays a tribute to it by composing it in this Genre. He credits the play of strings in the interlude and phonetics in playing a major role in boosting the soulful content it carries with it.
  • Tayyab Ali - A modern adaption of song of same in the 1970's film, Amar Akbar Anthony by Pritam's assistant, Anupam Amod sets itself apart from the contempory recreations in recreating the near-identical situation to the original song, and the imaginative contemporary tenor. He furthermore praised the smart addition of lyrics by Lyricist and writer of the film, Rajat Aroraa to the original irreverent chorus by Anand Bakshi, Pritam replicating the old orchestration only to a basic extent, keeping the choral patterns different too and avoided unnecessary comparison between the Mohammed Rafi and Javed Ali stating that would be unfair and odious.
  • Tu Hi Khwahish - A counterpart of Parda from the previous soundtrack which itself found its sources in two classics. The energetic, laced with intesenly romantical lyrics and richly acoustical in arrangements according to the reviewer is a hark back to such tracks from Prakash Mehra and Feroz Khan with Kalyanji-Anandji and orchestral nuances reminding us of R.D. Burman!. He concluded with stating it to be the finest track which inspite of some high-pitched vocals from Sunidhi Chauhan does not jar on the ears at even for a sole point of time.
  • Chugliyaan - The weakest link of the album he critised it for being too calculated in melodies and lyrics and thereby got executed at the end as an average and orthodox track. He critised it not for being bad but being the ad-infinitum grooves frequented by lesser skilled composers.[50]
Jogider Tuteja writing for Rediff review of the soundtrack -
  • Ye Tune Kya Kiya - He praises the lyrics which are appropriate to the core, Javed Bashirs vocals that that gel well with the overall flow of the song. and the composers deft ability to maintain the quintessential qawalli flavour throughout the entirety of the song.
  • Tayyab Ali - He heavily critizes the song's experimental and annoyingly placed english lyrics which foils the singers earnest attempts who tries his best.
  • Tu Hi Khwahish - He praises the song for setting the mood back after an upsetting Tayyab Ali, a song that would make Asha Bhosle proud, particularly beacuse of Sunidhi Chauhans vocal rendition in the antra's.
  • Chugliyaan - He credits the final track, a sufi number as a beautiful love song with a poetic feel to it and impressive chorus. He compared Javed Ali's vocals to those of Sonu Nigam adding them be exceptionally well supported by Sahir Ali Bagga's vocals.[51]
Bryan Durham writing for The Times of India reviews the film saying brevity seems to be the soul of the Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara soundtrack -
  • Ye Tune Kya Kiya - Javed Bashir's rugged voice gets aashiqana with the very traditional Ye Tune Kya Kiya. He points out the musical nod to Pee Loon weaved into the tune for the fans of the film.
  • Tayyab Ali - Ali infuses the required balance of energy and restraint on Javed Ali's contemporised version of the song which sets itself apart from the original in the lyrics section but roots leading to the original can be discovered instrumentally and thematically.
  • Tu Hi Khwahish - nod to the item numbers of the 80s and 90s, like Parda Hai Parda was in OUATIM on Sunidhi Chauhans number where she tries to replicate Asha Bhosle in the ending by a harkat while at the same time channelling a famous Helen number, but doesn't quite impress.
  • Chugliyaan - fresh sound-wise but seems confused in what it's trying to achieve on the song by Javed Ali.
He ended stating Pritam's compositions here are competent but nowhere as memorable as what he accomplished with OUATIM.[52]
Mohar Basu in her review of the soundtrack for Koimoi -
  • Ye Tune Kya Kiya - He credits Javed Bashir's voice the sole beauty of the song while saying the unusually high tempo, rash and rhyming-lacked lyrics lend a hand in the impact of the song not lingering.
  • Tayyab Ali - She reviewed the song without comparing it to the original version. She praised the lyrics, Javed Ali's ecletic tone complete with humour. In her perception, remakes are results of lack of perception therefore she concluded saying this track is lag for me.
  • Tu Hi Khwahish - She said it was a brilliant song with vigorous beats and catchy beats. The retro cabaret beats comes across well in Sunidhi’s sensuous voice concluded by her.
  • Chugliyaan - She credits this song to be a zero-impacter on first hear. She critized the love ballads flat instrumentsal arrangement which leads to the lack and loss of appeal with repetition.
She said Overall the OUATIMD album is just about alright. With such few songs to gauge from it is an average album with only Tu Hi Khawish standing out in terms of lingering music. I am going with 2.5/5 for this album. Pritam and his singers can do much better than this. I was expecting the original OUATIM delight but in comparison this one turned out to be drab! thus concluding the review [53]

Subhra Gupta for The Indian Express0.5/5 stars[58]
Mohar Basu of Koimoi2/5 stars[59]
IMDB6.3/10 stars[60]
Noted film critic and analyst, Rajeev Masand writing for CNN-IBN gving 1.5/5 stars Stars to the film said Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara is the equivalent of getting a root canal. He critized the naivity of the tree main lead describing them as plain stupid. He critizes Akshay for his on-screen in-your-face flamboyance which paled when compared to Ajay Devgn's sexy nonchalance. Furthermore he heavily critized and mocked the rat-a-tat punch lines and Imran Khan who appeared to be an urban rich kid slumming it out at a dress-up party. He noted a few strongs points such as Sonali Bendre's spirited cameo as Mumtaz and a particularly intelligent scene where Shoiab walks into a police-station seemingly to surrender himself but claimed them to be small mercies in a major misfire.[56]
Madhureeta Mukherjee writing for Times of India gave the film 3.5/5 stars stars saying Watch this story of deewana dons and their dilrubas. There's nothing criminal about it! She appraised Milan Luthria for being able to capture the essence and aroma of the period in which it is set in. She also praised Kumar's acting and potrayal of the Don, Shoaib Khan with bhai act with flamboyance and mojo. He gets a chance to do what he does best - herogiri (albeit less menacing, more entertaining), with charisma and clap-trap dialoguebaazi. Although she critized Imran Khan's ill at ease way of playing a rogue, the second half of the film being less engaging than the previous and the dialogues which punch drama to the story claiming them to get at times too overbearing. She ended with saying This film has its moments, but it's not as compelling as the prequel.[57]
Subhra Gupta writing for The Indian Express gave the film 0.5/5 stars stars and said that After all the shoot-outs and bang-bangs are over, you are left with a film which leaves you with so little new that you wonder if there's any juice left in this style of retro gangsta flick. Or are we heading for a third-time-in-Mumbai-Tibara? criticizing it heavily for Sonakshi's act as goody-two-shoes heroine Jasmine who is more naïve than any young woman has the right to be. [58]
Mohar Basu reviewing the film for Koimoi gave the title 2/5 stars stars and said that OUATIMD lacks the effervescence and naturalness of its prequel. The vibrancy of the script is diluted with hard-to-believe romance, minimal story; the film falters due to lack of action and the calamity that OUATIMD reflected in abundance. This one isn't really a dull bore but fails to spark off the enigma of the former edition! Crime thrillers and love dramas shouldn't be mingled, it results in an insipid broth like this, critized the overtness of melodrama in it, the lack of euphoric stand-out moments in it partly because of the lazy script and rest because of it falling apart when compared to its predecessor, the lack lustred chemistry between the leads where its surprising for the audience when Sonakshi declares her lover rejecting another. She questioned the existence of the plots core theme of obsession over romance which seems out of the blue considering there are barely any tender moments or delicate minutes of love. She calls Akshay Kumar sleazy in his dialogue delivery, outright hilarious at times failing to add depth, charisma or persona in role that Emraan Hashmi had immortalized. She describes Sonakshi Sinha's character as chatterbox replete with idiocracy while saying Imran Khan was trying-too-hard-to-be-suave but the film further imposes the impression of his inherent inability to act. The only highs of the film according to the reviewer are Sonali Bendre's compelling and convincing act in a single solid scene where she conveys effortlessly the emotional carnage Shoaib's love had caused to her over the years and the action scenes in the first hour of the film, notably the one where both Kumar and Khan jump over a terrace together which showed glimpses of the panache of what it had attempted on.[59]

Box Office

The film had a very good opening with 100% occupancy in theatres especially in Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad owing to release on a National holiday on the eve of Independence Day. Akshay Kumar, using his official facebook page stated "Finally my film has released! Go enjoy Dobaara!! It's housefull Dobaara !! It's Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara ;)".[citation needed] Due to limited availability of screens, 1000 or so as Balaji Motion Pictures and makers of Chennai Express, UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies Entertainment have agreed to with makers of Chennai Express agreeing to release 1000 screens on Friday to accomodate 2700 screens for Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara!. Thus the film despite low screens went on to earn INR90 million (US$1.5 million) crore nett on its opening Day.[61] There are many inconsistencies regarding the opening collection while Box Office India reported it to be 9 crore and other sources report a range between 11-15 crore with the film releasing on a 1000 screen count while the COO of Balaji Motion Pictures confirming the 14 crore figure.[62][63]
